An entire family, including a toddler and young children, residing in rural Albuquerque, NM, were found by police to be fatally shot inside their home on Saturday.
Police arrived on the scene of the Griego residence after an unidentified source placed an emergency call, alerting officers that a family had been attacked. When police arrived Saturday evening, they found a husband and wife and their three young children dead from gun shot wounds.
Among the victims were Greg Griego, 51, his wife Sara Griego, 40, and their three young children, Zephania Griego, 9, Jael Griego, 5 and Angelina Griego, 2.
Police arrested and charged the couple’s 15-year-old son, Nehemiah Griego.
Neighbors and friends describe the teen’s father as a community leader who volunteered as a Chaplain for the local fire department and county jail. Greg Griego was also the pastor with the Calvary Church in Albuquerque.
It is not yet clear the motive of the shooter. According tot he NY Daily News, the teen was homeschooled and often dressed in military fatigues.
Police are also withholding statements made to the police by the alleged teen shooter. Investigators found several assault rifles on the scene, which they believe were used to slaughter the teen’s family but investigators are not yet sure who the guns belong to.
According to the Kansas City Star, Nehemiah Griego has been charged with two counts of murder and three counts of child abuse resulting in death.
