Alecia White, a mother of two, is furious after taking her 4-year-old daughter, Savannah, to the dentist for four cavities only to have every one of her teeth capped with stainless steal crowns.
Ms. White of Phoenix Ariz., was so angry, she took her story to the media earlier this week. Ms. White said she was shocked and horrified to find that her daughter’s mouth was completed coated in heavy silver caps. Ms. White was apparently oblivious to what was happening to her Savannah after the dentist sedated the young girl, White left her in the examination after entrusting her care to their dentist.
Ms. White told AZFamily that her daughter’s devastation over how she looks now is heartbreaking.
White said, “On a daily basis she says, ‘Mommy, I don’t like my teeth. I don’t like my teeth and it’s really kind of hard to hear every single day”.
A local television station offered to have a pediatric dental expert, Dr. Richard Chaet, examine the girl’s mouth and make recommendations on how to fix it. Chaet concluded that due to the level of decay in the girl’s mouth, it was actually necessary to cap them adding that her deteriorated teeth are baby teeth, so she will eventually lose them. Chaet did however replace the silver crowns with natural looking vaneers so the the caps would be less noticeable.
