William Hilton Paul, 19, accused and arrested for alleged underage drinking at Charlotte airport. Mug shot via the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Dept.

William Hilton Paul, 19, son of Kentucky Senator Rand Paul and grandson of former presidential candidate Ron Paul was arrested Saturday morning at a North Carolina airport after allegedly becoming drunk and disorderly.

According to ABC World News, police believe the Senator’s son was intoxicated when he arrived at the Charlotte/Douglas International Airport early Saturday morning.

Charlotte Police Lt. Blake Hollar told ABC that William “was possibly served alcohol on the flight”. William reportedly took an early flight from Lexington, Ky. early Saturday morning and allegedly became belligerent upon exiting the aircraft.

Police were called and William was arrested and charged with three misdemeanors, including disorderly conduct.

Sen. Paul flew to Israel Sunday evening in the capacity of his newly appointed Senate Foreign Relations Committee assignment. His office released a statement  regarding the incident, calling the matter private:

Sen. Paul is a national public figure and subject to scrutiny in the public arena, however, as many parents with teenagers would understand, his family should be afforded the privacy and respect they deserve in a situation such as this.

William subsequently posted bond and was released on Saturday.
