A 14-month-old toddler boy from Monsey, New York is dead today after his cousin found him face down in a toilet.
The toddler, Mendi Altman, and his family were visiting relatives in Brookyln for the Rosh Hashanah holiday which is the Jewish New Year. The family was staying with Mendi’s aunt and uncle. Mendi’s parents told police that they checked on the children after they went to bed and everything was fine.
Around 11 pm, Mendi’s 13-year-old cousin got up to use the bathroom and discovered the tot, drowned in the toilet.
According to the New York Post, police say they found no trauma on the boy and they don’t currently believe foul play was involved. New York Police feel the tragedy was a terrible accident.
The boy’s uncle told the Post that the parents were “in mourning” and called the incident “a terrible tragedy”.
Mendi is survived by six other siblings.
