Father accused of locking daughter inside trunk as punishment.
An Orlando, Florida man was arrested after witnesses called police after observing him put a young girl in the trunk of his Toyota Camry. The witnesses came across the incident last Sunday, following services at a church parking lot.
An Orange county police report states that the witnesses say the man, identified as Johnny Nguyen, 50 (the victim’s father), threw the child in the trunk and slammed the trunk door closed. They then report they heard the child screaming.
Those same witnesses confronted Nguyen and demanded he release the girl. They allege that Nguyen just paced back and forth anxiously until he finally opened the trunk. The temperature that day soared to a near 97 degrees. On a hot day, temperatures can be as much as 30 degrees warmer inside the trunk of a car according to Medstar Emergency Services.
The police arrived to the scene and arrested Nguyen who was reportedly acting surprised by their involvement. According to the Orlando Sentinel, Nguyen police, “What you want here, I didn’t do anything, she was only in trunk for few minutes.”
Nguyen was arrested on child abuse charges and his daughter was turned over to the care of Children and Family Services.
