An argument at a screening of Batman: The Dark Knight Rises on Sunday night sent people scurrying for the nearest exits as movie goers showed a heightened sense of vulnerability. According to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, an incident which started in the movie theater bathrooms, later erupted in a violent altercation sans any lethal weaponry.
Police say that a child was repeatedly trying to enter an occupied bathroom stall which was being used by a male patron. The unidentified man reportedly told the kid that the stall was being used, but the child kept trying to gain entry. The incident apparently enraged the man who confronted the boys bother. The argument became heated to which the perpetrator allegedly punched the woman in the face.
During the outburst, someone reportedly yelled, “Gun!”
Moviegoers then panicked and started running for the exits.
Police said no weapons were found and that movie goers reacted out of fear resulting from the movie massacre on Friday in which a gunman open fired in a movie theater in Aurora, Colorado, killing 12 people and injuring 70.
The suspect, 51, was arrested and charged with harassment, disorderly conduct and simple assault.
