Perhaps Idol’s producers wanted to ratchet up the crazy quotient as they have now confirmed that Mariah Carey will be joining the American Idol judge panel for the 2013 season. Carey will likely be taking Jennifer Lopez’ spot as the new Idol Diva. Lopez has publicly announced that she is “99% sure she is leaving the show”. Steven Tyler, who has been on the panel of judges with Lopez along with original Idol judge, Randy Jackson, for the last two seasons, has announced his departure from the show.
Carey, 42, has a set of fraternal twins, 14-months-old with husband actor/comedian Nick Cannon. She has proven to be a busy working mother, working throughout her pregnancy recording music. Her fourteenth studio record is slated to be released sometime this fall.
According to the AP, Idol executive producer Nigel Lythgoe may have gone after Carey for added credibility as shows like The X-Factor recently brought on pop icon Britney Spears.
Among American Idol judge recommendations is Carrie Underwood, a name that was suggested today by first American Idol winner Kelly Clarkson.
Another possible candidate is rumored to be Adam Lambert, the 30-year-old winner of the 8th season of American Idol.
