Vastie Coleman, 27, has been charged with injury to a child with serious bodily injury after after severely abusing her 4-year-old son for wetting his pants in the car.

According to authorities, Coleman, of Harris County, Texas, whipped her son, Kyron Barnes, with a chord in their apartment on Sunday night.

The Daily Mail reports that Coleman put her son in the bathtub after he wet his pants in the car and proceeded to whip him with a chord for over twenty minutes, until the boy stopped breathing.

Kyron was unresponsive when emergency workers arrived, and although they tried to revive him, the child was later pronounced dead at Memorial Hermann Northeast Hospital.

CPS has stated that the boy’s body showed evidence of past abuse and old injuries were visible.

The Daily Mail reports that according to CPS documents, the mother confessed to beating the boy and said to emergency workers that were on the scene, “I did it, I beat him, it’s all my fault and I don’t care what happens to me.”

Coleman’s other two children, girls ages 6 and 8, were removed from the home by CPS and placed temporarily with a foster family until a judge determines if they can stay with a family member.

The Daily Mail reports that one of Coleman’s daughters told investigators that their mother frequently thrashed them and had whipped her little brother with the chord because, “the belt was broken because mom kept whipping the kids so hard it broke into pieces.”

From March of 2010 through April 2012 Coleman was investigated five times by CPS over allegations of physical abuse, sexual abuse,  medical neglect and neglectful supervision, reports The Daily Mail.  All of the cases were either ruled out by CPS or closed as “unable to determine.”

Coleman is currently on probation for for stealing prescription medication from a pharmacy she used to work at.  According to ABC 13, she admitted to investigators that she stole the medication and sold it.

Coleman is being held in the Harris County Jail without bond.  Her attorney is requesting a mental health evaluation.
