A 10-month-old Gary, Indiana baby is in serious condition after falling from a third story window of the family’s apartment. The baby apparently fell through a loose window screen while his mother was sleeping.

The baby’s mother, Tiesha Powell, is calling his survival a miracle. The infant boy, Kyan, reportedly suffered from a liver laceration and a bruised lung. Doctors say Kyan is expected to make a full recovery. Surprisingly, the accident didn’t break any of Kyan’s bones.

Powell said she woke up early Tuesday morning to give Kyan a bottle when she turned to her 7-year-old daughter, Indigo, and asked if she’d be okay if Powell laid down a little bit longer. Indigo told her mother she’d be fine and Powell says she asked Indigo to come get her if the children needed anything.

Powell says next thing she knew, a neighbor was knocking on the door after hearing her son crying. Apparently, the neighbor found the baby on the grass in front of the building, crawling on the ground crying. The baby was then rushed to Comer’s Children’s Hospital in Chicago.

Authorities say they believe the fall was an accident after Child Protection Services underwent an investigation and determined the Powell household to be free of neglect.
