An Illinois father found himself shocked and worried after finding a 2-foot-long python snake in his son William’s crib. The snake was wrapped around the baby’s foot.
William’s father, Devin Winans, was alerted that something was amiss when he went to check on his baby after hearing strange noises coming from the boy’s room around 11 pm last Monday. Winans quickly took the snake off the baby’s foot but noticed his foot was bleeding so he rushed him to the hospital near his residence in Mattoon, Illinois. William suffered only a small puncture wound and few scrapes according to CLTV News. Doctors say little William is in excellent condition and will fully recover.
The snake belonged to the Winans’ neighbor. Animal control was called and seized the snake. The neighbor was cited for failing to properly securing the python.
Winans posted on his Facebook page that he planned on moving from the apartment he was residing in because of the incident.
He also wrote in response to the outpouring of support:
“Thanks to everyone for your support with what happened to William. We really appreciate the concern for his safety. William doing great and had a wonderful 1st birthday I’m just so thankful that he is ok and that nothin [sic] worse happened to him”
