A 2-year-old boy is now recovering after doctors removed a 33-pound tumor from the right side of the boy’s body. At 33-pounds, the tumor weighed more than the youngster himself and extended from his armpit to his hip.
Dr. Gustavo Hernandez at the La Raza Medical Center in Mexico City, where Jesus Rodriguez had the tumor removed, said the tumor kept growing larger and larger. Eventually the tumor enveloped the boys whole body.
The youngster is reportedly in good condition and recovering after the 10-hour-plus surgery was performed June 14. The tumor was found to be benign but was so heavy, it was reportedly cutting off the boy’s oxygen supply.
Dr. Hernandez says the removal of a tumor that large was the first of it’s kind in Mexico.
