A mother in Munnsville, New York died after police tased her during an altercation.  The Madison County police were reportedly trying to subdue the woman after she tried to harm her 3-year-old child and the family dog.

Pamela McCarthy, 35, was allegedly under the influence of bath salts when she went into a violent rage and started attacking her toddler son. McCarthy’s boyfriend, Jason Williams, told police he was trying to save the couple’s toddler from her violent rampage, while she continued to try to punch and choke their son when the violent scene moved outside the couple’s apartment.

Witnesses say they saw the woman stumble out of her apartment and fall down the stairs, holding onto the tot and landing on him. She continued to try to pummel her toddler and at one point threw the child onto the pavement, eyewitnesses David and Zachary Bridge told CNY Central. The Bridge’s also said that they observed MCarthy laughing while trying repeatedly to hurt the baby

Police arrived at the scene on Tuesday night where they found McCarthy out of control, violent and highly combative. A female neighbor said McCarthy was heard growling and her lips were blue. Upon resisting arrest, one of the officers tasered her after pepper spray failed to clam her down. The woman later died. It is believed that the consumption of the synthetic drugs coupled with a documented heart condition, caused her to suffer from cardiac arrest after she was tasered.

McCarthy’s son was examined at a local hospital and released in good condition.
