Unified Police in Utah say they have arrested a group of 6 roommates for kidnapping another roommate and subjecting him to horrific torture, including using a Dremel drill on him, for many hours.
Thomas Chapman, 41, had moved into the home at 2931 S. 8950 West near Salt Lake City just ten days ago, upon the agreement that he would remodel the basement in leiu of paying rent.
“One of suspects claims over the last several weeks different people have pulled a gun on him in the street,” Unified Police Lt. Justin Hoyal said. “They believe (Chapman) was responsible for it.”
Either late Saturday night or early Sunday morning, the gang of 6 took Chapman at gunpoint into the basement, handcuffed him, bound his feet with tape, and sadistically tortured him until around 4 a.m.
Hoyal says the gang of 6 stapled Chapman’s lips together, stapled his ears, put staples all over his chest, cut him from head to toe with a knife and a Dremel cutting tool, and struck him multiple times with blunt force objects including a crutch, keyboard, laptop and the butt-end of a shotgun slammed into his head. Chapman was held at gunpoint throughout the ordeal.
After hours of torture from all 6 of the roommates, they became convinced that Chapman had nothing to do with the alleged gun incidents on the street and they released him. Hoyal says the man escaped to his sister’s house in only his underwear and the police were called. When police arrived the man was still wearing handcuffs.
Chapman was taken to the hospital in critical condition and was reportedly released on Tuesday.
All 6 of the roommates were arrested arrested six people for investigation of aggravated kidnapping, aggravated assault and obstruction of justice with domestic violence and gang enhancements because more than three people were involved, although the group are not believed to be gang members.
The 6 roommates, Jennifer Moses, 30; Lee Carl Moses, 26; David Masters, 55; Paula Masters, 43; Brandon Haggard, 20; and Tracy Jordan, 45, remain in Salt Lake County Jail.
