Former daycare teacher Harold Meyers, 44, of 104   Waldorf Ave., Bridgeport, Connecticut, has been charged with two counts each of third-degree sexual assault and two counts of risk of injury arising from allegations he molested two girls at a daycare center where he worked about two years ago.  He was held overnight on $150,000 bond and will be arraigned Monday at state Superior Court in Norwalk.

The two arrest affidavits state that Meyers worked as a head teacher in a classroom at Tumble Bugs daycare center at 11 Allen Toad for 18 months between 2007 and 2009.

According to The Stamford Advocate, the mother of one of the girls, now 7-years-old, called the police in August 2011 after her daughter told her that about two years earlier a teacher at the daycare had molested her when she was four or five.

According to the affidavits, the girl was brought to the Children’s Connection in Norwalk for a forensic interview.  During the interview, the girl said that during nap time one day a male teacher pulled his chair up to her cot and put his penis into her mouth.

Following a police investigation, it was determined that Meyers was the head of the classroom when the incident took place and he fit a basic description of the teacher that the girl provided during her interviews. The affidavits also state that the mother told police that a teacher with the last name “Meyers” was the only male who supervised her.

Additionally, according to information in the affidavits, the girl told police that she believed something similar had happened to a friend of hers, another “student” of Meyers, at the time.

The Norwalk Citizen reports that police determined who the girl was and when they interviewed her in September, she said that she was also molested during nap time by the male teacher when a lady teacher left the room for lunch.

The second girl said that the teacher put his hands down her pants and touched her genitals. The affidavits state that during her interview at the Children’s Connection the girl said that the teacher also touched her genitals with his genitals on another occasion and that she didn’t tell anyone about what the teacher did to her because she didn’t want to get in trouble.

According to the affidavits, Meyers denied the allegations when confronted by a police detective investigating the case and declined to give a written statement or undergo a polygraph test offered to him by police.

The Stamford Advocate reported that two directors at Tumble Bugs said that Meyers worked at the daycare from March 2008 to August 2009 and then left to pursue a job within the pubic schools.

Meyers employment also included a position for Norwalk Economic Opportunity Now, but according to his affidavit he was fired when he allowed a non-authorized father to pick up his child.  He was also employed as a substitute teacher for grades 1-9 at the Bridgeport public schools and at another Bridgeport daycare, Precious Memories, until his employment was terminated in March 2011.
