The Zion Baptist church daycare center on the 1200 block of Kenilworth Avenue in Northeast Washington, D.C. was closed on Wednesday amid accusations of sexual abuse to a three-year-old boy.
On April 10th at 1 p.m. a daycare coordinator witnessed a male employee standing over the sleeping child. According to a report by My Fox D.C., when the witness yelled at the man, he jumped up semi-naked and began pulling up the alleged victim’s pants. The police were not called until three days later.
ABC News 7 has reported that the mother is furious that she was not told about the incident for two days. According to the mother, when she asked the coordinator why she hadn’t called the police, the coordinator said that at the time she had never had anything like this happen and she didn’t know what to do. ABC additionally reports that other parents were not informed of the true reason the daycare was shutting its’ doors on Wednesday and that some were lead to believe it had to do with a licensing issue.
WUSA 9 News Now reports that according to the D.C. Police, the U.S. Attorney’s Office is also investigating the allegations.
In a statement to the media, D.C. Police Commander George Kucik said, “Right now our focus is on the actual incident that occurred with the child. Everything will be looked at in the investigation, but our focus is really dealing with the assault on the child or the alleged assault on the child at this point.”
UPDATE: WTOP News is reporting that according to their sources Randolph King, 21, was arrested Thursday in Prince George’s County and is currently being held in the District as a suspect in the case, however police have not confirmed an arrest at this time.
