By the time the Dallas Cowboy Cheerleader’s 2012 auditions commence, Sharon Simmons of Carrollton, Texas, will be 56-years-old. That’s not stopping the the grandmother of two from giving it her all though. Simmons has decided that she wants to try out for one of the most physically demanding and appearance judging jobs of all time — a Dallas Cowboy Cheerleader. Currently, the oldest Cowboy cheerleader was 42. Although Simmons is more than twice the age of most contestants, Simmons claims there’s “absolutely no difference” between her body and many of the young girls trying out.
Simmons may be a card carrying member of AARP but she’s also the author of Triple F:Fifty Fit and Fabulous, Proof that Fitness is for Any Age, a national fitness competitor and champion, actress and even finds time to sell Avon products on the side.

Simmons said trying out to be a professional cheerleader is something she’s always wanted to do, but after having her daughter, motherhood became a priority. Now that her daughter is grown, she wants to push the limits of her vitality. According to CBS News, Simmons used a Dallas Cowboy Cheerleaders costume for a fitness routine last December and that’s what gave her the idea.
Simmons is currently working with a former Cowboy cheerleader trainer and dance instructor, Audrea Cowen, to help her learn the fast routines and become more flexible. Even Cowen admits, “The flexibility required to be a cheerleader is greater than what she needs for fitness competition.”
The Dallas Cowboy Cheerleader Auditions are scheduled for May 5th and 6th. If Grandma Simmons is chose, she’ll be the oldest NFL cheerleader ever.
