Houston mother arrested for abusing 3-year-old, tying him to his crib
Arlene Alaniz, 28, of Houston, TX, has been accused by police of abusing her her special needs baby, 3, by tying him to a crib and beating him.
The toddler, who was supposed to be fed through a feeding tube, had his tube pulled out when the Houston Fire Department was called. The boy appeared to be suffering from multiple contusions, cuts and was emaciated and malnourished, according to reports.
The Houston Chronicle reported that the boy’s older brother, age 4, told authorities that his mother would often hit the baby because he cried all the time and she would frequently tie the him to his crib so he wouldn’t escape.
It’s unclear who called 911 to the family’s Houston apartment. The mother of the allegedly abused boy told police that his feeding tube fell out and she was having a difficult time trying to get it to stay in place. She denies all other accusations.
The toddler was also examined by medical staff who noted that the boy weighed only 26 lbs. was failing to thrive.
Alaniz has been arrested and charged with child abuse.
