Man arrested in Des Plaines, Illinois for distributing child pornography

Bobby Cruz, a 32-year-old man from Des Plaines, Illinois, has been taken into federal custody after investigators allegedly found child pornography, incluing videos and photos, on his laptop and external hard drive.

The U.S. attorney’s office announced today that Cruz was arrested and charged with transporting child pornography via computer on Nov. 1 as part of Operation Predator, a nationwide program designed to protect children from sexual predators. He is currently being detained at Chicago’s Metropolitan Correctional Center.

The complaint affidavit states that federal agents found that someone exchanged hundreds of child pornography images through e-mail in December 201o. A press release states that the email account was linked Cruz’s home in Des Plaines by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents.

In September of this year, Cruz sent a file containing 100 pictures of child pornography via email to an undercover agent. The release says that investigators subsequently obtained a search warrant for his home.

Agents allegedly found “numerous” pornograpic images and videos of children on Cruz’s laptop and the external hard drive. Later, he admitted to the posession of thousands of child porn photos and hundreds of videos. The complaint states that he also admitted to filming some of the footage.

If convicted, Cruz could spend five t0 20 years in prison and pay a maximum fine of $250,000.
