So you’re a young couple, broke, and have to support your daughter. What do you do?
For one couple, the answer was having sex on the Internet.
Tyler, 24, and Berkley, 21, turned to amateur porn as a way to make a living when their dead end jobs were causing them to have financial problems.
The couple talked about the experience with Lisa Ling for the upcoming premiere of the second season of her show, Our America with Lisa Ling, which was previewed on ABC’s Nightline.
Tyler became hooked on the live sex sessions when their first attempt turned out to be pretty lucrative.
“Within 30 minutes we had made, like, $300. And I was like, I’m done with the normal 40 hour week. I’m done,” Tyler said.
The couple makes up to $420 an hour, with 75% going to the website that broadcasts the streaming video, and they said even with their minority cut they can still “live comfortably,” generally earning on average a $1000 per week.
Besides having sex on camera, Tyler and Berkley also take directions from the site’s users to perform certain sexual acts — all while their 20-month-old daughter sleeps in a nearby room.
“We do keep a baby monitor turned down really low so if we do hear a rustling or anything,” Tyler said, “We’ll sign out, go tend to her, and usually come right back to work.”
Like the old cliche of the stripper simply taking off her clothes to pay for an education, Tyler and Berkley told Ling that they felt they were being “responsible parents” by finding a way to provide for their daughter. Tyler said that they hoped to be able to eventually quit porn and attend a college or trade school.
But it seems as if the easy money may be hard to walk away from for Tyler.
“I don’t want to live a broke life,” Tyler said. “I want to live a comfortable, happy life. Porn’s giving it, and I’m gonna take it.”
