So what’s a parent to do when they really want to go to a pop concert but can’t find a sitter? For one German couple, the solution was to leave the baby in the trunk of their car in the parking lot.

The couple went to a seven hour music festival in Stuttgart, more than 400 miles from their home, and before going into the concert they placed their 8-month-old son, Anton, in the trunk, according to German newspaper Schleswig-Holsteinischer Zeitungsverlag.

Fortunately for Anton, other concertgoers heard the infant crying and alerted security. When Anton’s parents could not be found, police forced their way into vehicle where they found the baby overheated. He was taken to the hospital for treatment, and placed into protective custody.

Now Anton’s 18-year-old mother wants her baby back, saying she’s learned from the experience. She also defended her actions, saying, “We had left the windows [of the car] open a gap… Anton had enough light and air, and the car was in the shade.”

She added that she had informed family aid of their road trip to the concert, and claims that the office said Anton was required to stay with them.

Anton’s father said that the original plan had been for the couple to take turns going into the concert, but at the last minute decided to go to the concert together. His mother says they had planned on taking breaks to check on their baby, but the concert’s no re-entry policy kept that from happening.

She added, “We are a family and we will fight. I want my child back.”

SERIOUSLY??? They had no clue this was a stupid idea? These 2 do not deserve a child. “I’ve learned from my experience” … it’s not like they forgot to close the baby gate & the child fell down a step, they MEANT to lock him in the trunk. WTF is wrong with people?! You don’t lock your dog in a vehicle let alone your baby in a trunk.

It’s been a long time since I’ve wanted to punch anyone square in the face, but I’d love to deck these two clowns. Poor little Anton could have died if it hadn’t been for the patrons who found him. Most people wouldn’t leave an iPod unattended in a car, let alone a precious baby. Lock up these two monsters and find Anton an adoptive family that will love and cherish him.

I sincerely believe that there have been TRUE incidents of babies being left in carseats by accident, although i cant imagine HOW, i have FEARED this….I dont even run into a GAS STATION without unstrapping my child….what the HECK is wrong with people!?? I dont even leave my preteen/teens alone more than an hour or so.. I think some people should be sterilized so they cant do it again…

Totally irresponsible and please the lame excuse of about leaving the window ajar and parking in the shade does not excuse the fact that the car would still become hot… I so wish that the state could return the favour to these people by leaving them in similar conditions and without liquid/fluids…

Somebody needs to hit both of them with the stupid stick! when my twins were that age, I could not even leave them for 30 mins even with a responsible person. My stomach would start doing turns and feel like vomiting from the stress of leaving them. that poor child must have been starving and horrified of the whole incident. Makes me wonder how many more times that poor child has been left alone before!

Never EVER give these two idiots their child back! Their common sense and decision-making are both off—and by a long shot! How do you even reconcile in your brain that leaving a child in the trunk of a car is okay? I can’t even conceive of it. These two knew what they were doing. They knew the baby would be visible from inside the car–thus potentially robbing this precious child of being rescued had something terrible happened. Needed: A court order to sterilize these two, and A.S.A.P!

OMG – how dumb are they? I don’t care that they are 18 and want to go to a concert! You ARE PARENTS! That means you put your children first. That baby as a minimum would have been distressed being left all alone and at worst died of heat exhaustion. Family services are very right not to give that child back to the parents. They need some serious help before they could be considered responsible enough to look after a child – and even then long term supervision would be needed. If you can’t find a babysitter – YOU DON’T GET TO GO OUT! Arrghhh disgusted.

I have to agree with most of these comments. I do not believe you deserve your child back. Under no circumstances should you ever leave a baby alone! My cousin and I were in the kitchen doing her dishes and her son was able to climb out of his bassinet and fell on his head, thank God he is ok but my point is, babies need more attention then we adults do. They need food, water, or changed a lot more than we do and they can not do it themselves, your his parents you should have acted like it. I love children with all my heart and reading this broke my heart. Imagine what would have happened if you came back to the car and your son was dead? How would you feel? Thank God someone found him before that happened. I pray he finds a good home. You don’t deserve him back.

you guys are over reacting! i don’t see how you find it so shocking. i am aware that yes, the child could have died, and i honestly do find the parents stupid, but there are cases of abuse so much worse that this and you have death wishes on these two? i have never had any children (probably because i’m only 13) and i would understand why parents would hate these guys, but i don’t. plus, staranna, give your kids some more time on their own. no teenager likes their mother/father being with them after an hour of being alone. Mother of two, they don’t need mental help. i know that from experience. my brother needs mental help.

what on earth.. once you have a kid you should realize that the kid should be your MAIN concern.. as in if you can’t find someone to care for the kid you care for them yourselves..

I will on occasion take my little dog on the road with me. If I have to stop at a gas station, I leave him in the SUV with the windows half down and the sunroof open (weather permitting.) I am in the gas station for under five minutes, and always have my eyes on him through the window. Even then, I can’t wait to get out of there so he’s not alone and scared in the vehicle.

How these people could possibly consider leaving their BABY in the trunk for any amount of time is completely beyond me. Most people wouldn’t do that to a goldfish, much less a child!! For now the child is better off in protective custody.

Wow!….Listening to her dumb ass excuses, I don’t think I have ever encountered parents or even a grandma more stupid!!! We are talking about a BABY and she says ‘well we left the windows cracked!’ For that excuse alone, that bitch should never get the baby back!!! It hurts my heart to see all these cases like this, the idiot needs to thank her lucky stars, her baby didn’t ended up like hundreds of other cases where the baby dies being left in the car and she isn’t serving the lengthy prison sentence because of it!

I give my oldest daughter alone time, running to the store and short errands to see if she can handle some responsibility. But this was an 8 month old baby. The baby can’t talk, can’t walk, can’t ask for help except through crying. There is a difference and this is not an over reaction.

I was a young mother and i used to feel bad because i never got to do anything because my husband was in the military & was always gone long periods of time.. Well now my kids are grown up and i can enjoy things i didn’t get to before :) Not saying moms shouldn’t go places but if you don’t have a babysitter then stay home. I do babysit my grandchildren a couple a nights a week for my daughters so they can enjoy their young life more. (They are in their 20′s) I had 3 young children and walked everywhere because i didn’t have a car i never once thought about leaving them alone it is just common sense. I don’t think they should get their baby back. There is no excuse to leave a baby alone (especially in a hot car trunk) what was they thinking. Some people have no common sense. SMH!
