Sofia Coppola set to wed in Italy

The forty-year-old silver screen maverick, Sofia Coppola, is set to wed her long-term partner, French musician Thomas Mars, with whom she has two children.

The two will exchange nuptials along the clay hills of Basilicata in the town of Bernalda, the adoptive home of Sofia’s great-grandfather, Agostino, who emigrated there in 1904.

The father of the bride, Francis Ford Coppola, famed director of the Godfather trilogy and Apocalypse Now, is currently restoring a bar outside the old palazzo in Bernalda. He has supposedly ordered a lamb’s head for each guest (let the Godfather jokes ensue), which will be served alongside small servings of liver and calf’s lung.

Cousins of the bride-to-be, Nicholas Cage and Jason Schwartzman, are said to be among the 70 guests invited to the intimate reception after the ceremony held on the Coppola’s property. The meal will be catered by local restaurant, the Vecchio Frantoio, located on the palazzo’s ground floor, and entertainment is set to include screenings of Sofia’s films projected on local residences.

The town’s people are rumored to be excited for the event. A local school teacher commented, “People here are excited about the wedding, since we usually see these things on TV. But [Francis Ford] Coppola is a regular here, he comes in to chat in the bars and is well liked.”
