Houston area police report that a 46 year old grandmother tried to trick her 7 year old grandson so that she could attempt to drown him in her bathtub. Arburne Jeanine Bensen, 46, reportedly told the boy to take a shower and then proceeded to fill the tub with water and force his head under it with both hands. The boy told police that he struggled to gasp for air and was screaming for help while begging his Grandmother not to hurt him. Benson then called her sister and admitted to her that she tried to kill the young boy.
According to ABC News, Bensen has been caring for her Grandson for four years because the boy’s mother (Bensen’s daughter) is in prison. Apparently Bensen resented having to raise the boy and told police that she was tired and frustrated. Bensen has been charged with felony attempted murder in trying to kill her grandson. Priors include a burglary from 1995. If convicted, she could serve of average of 20 years in prison, however, she would likely be eligible for parole after 11.
