The dream Kate Gosselin expressed recently on the Today show about her reality show, Kate Plus 8, following her life around raising teenagers has been dashed.

That would have to be a “Where are they now?” special instead, as TLC has announced that Kate Plus 8 has been cancelled.

In a statement obtained by Access Hollywood, TLC said it “has decided not to renew another season of ‘Kate Plus 8′. By the end of this season, ‘Kate Plus 8′ will have hit the 150 episode mark (including ‘Jon & Kate Plus 8′); an exceptional milestone.”

The Gosselin clan once drew huge ratings for the network, especially when the dissolution of Jon & Kate’s marriage unfolded and viewers ate up the televised drama. The official announcement of the Gosselin divorce was one of the highest rated shows of all time for TLC.

Unfortunately for Kate, after Jon left the show he also took the tension with him, and the audience seemed to tire of simply watching Kate go on trips and receive the VIP treatment with her eight children, and viewership dwindled.

TLC did say it “hopes to check in with Kate and the family” for unspecified specials, which may just be code for, “We didn’t want Kate to completely freak out on us.”

Kate Gosselin has been trying to parlay her TLC fame for a while now, guest hosting on ABC’s The View and gunning for her own talk show, but not much has materialized. She also has expressed interest in some sort of role as a television producer.

In February of this year, Kate received the “True Hollywood Story” from the E! network.

Kate responded to the cancellation via her Twitter account, saying that she hopes “to have more time for motivational speaking, book writing & other fun work opportunities… and maybe even some dating??!!”

She added, “This is not ‘goodbye’. I prefer to say ‘See you around!’ Xoxo”

The final episode of Kate Plus 8 is currently scheduled to air on Monday, September 12.
