Former rapper Vanilla Ice, whose claim to fame was his one and only hit, “Ice Ice Baby” back in 1989, is a total downer when it comes to recognizing the sustainable “talent” of Justin Bieber. Vanilla, whose was born Robert Matthew Van Winkle appears to project his own rise and fall out of fame to that of Bieber’s career.  Vanilla plummeted to obscurity in the mid 90s when he failed to follow up with a comeback worthy of his big white rap hit. Vanilla Ice was 16 when his notorious white rap diddy hit the charts. He claims he was elevated to superstar status for 3 years and when he failed to make a come-back, he was left forgotten, depressed and without an identity. Vanilla describes that a low point in his life when he turned to drugs and even attempted suicide.

Vanilla, 43, currently lives in Florida with his wife and two daughters, ages 13 and 11. Recent modest comebacks include an independent CD release this year entitled WTF. Last year, he appeared on a reality TV show on HGTV called The Vanilla Ice Project. Over the last 15 years, Vanilla has run his own house renovation and property flipping company which he takes a very hands-on approach to, doing many of the renovations himself.

Vanilla explains to the Huffington Post that his fame felt like a very long weekend in which he woke up to a stark reality check.

He goes on to to say:

“So my prediction about Bieber is that he’s going to go through one of those weekends that lasts a few years because he’s had such success as a child act. You know, then something else new will come along and he’ll be forgotten and he can try to put all the pieces back together, so it’s going to be entertaining to watch.”
