Jeffrey Jewitt, from Illinois Sex Offender Registry

Jeffrey Jewitt (29), a convicted sex offender with a history of attempting to lure young girls into his car, was arrested this week by police from Elmwood Park, Illinois and charged with child abdution and loitering in a public park as a sexual predator.

Jewitt apparently approached the same young boy twice in two days, offering him a ride and claiming he was his mother’s cousin. In both cases, the boy was frightened and rode off on his bike. Elmwood Park Police made a composite sketch and distributed it to other local law enforcement agencies and the Des Plaines police thought it looked like Jewitt (a Des Plaines resident).

Jewitt has been convicted four times since 2003 for exposing himself to young girls or trying to lure them into his vehicle. He is currently serving 30 months probation for child abduction involving an eleven year old girl and for sexually exploiting another child (both incidents occurred in 2008).

Jewitt was one of several sex offenders profiled by the Chicago Tribune in 2010 and their investigation concluded that light punishment and lack of treatment allowed him to stay on the street andbecome more bold and aggressive in his crimes. Jewitt has been quoted in the past as saying he preys on young girls because “it’s less risky of getting caught.” In interviews in 2010 with WGN and the Chicago Tribune, Jewitt referred to his own behavior as “horrible and wrong.” He is set to appear in bond court on Friday.
