Mother kills 11 year old son with hammer; then slits her throat

A Canadian mother, who was apparently distraught by a pending eviction, bludgeoned her 11 year old son to death with a hammer. The pair reportedly lived in a tiny tool shed in Ontario. Ontario police believe that the mother, 41 year old Libia Lopez, beat her son with a hammer after a previously failed attempt at suicide. They also believe that she took her own life by cutting her own throat with a knife after she murdered young Eddie Lopez with a hammer.

It is not yet known why the mother and son were living in a shed or where Eddie’s biological father is. Police were alerted to the scene of murder-suicide after a neighbor called them to report what she thought was a dead body inside the shed. Police also report that they’ve found evidence at the scene which would indicate the act was planned.

According to KTLA News, another squatter of the makeshift shanty house community told the police that she heard screams coming from the home earlier that day but didn’t bother to check on the mother and son because she was scared. The neighbor was apparently squatting in the shed next door and didn’t want to be thrown out. She says she heard the cries from Eddie, screaming, “No, mommy! Don’t!”

Police are also reporting that there may be more to the story than the pending eviction. Another neighbor claims the mother told him she was suffering from severe depression.
