A teenager in Arlington Heights, Illinois, accused of breaking and entering a house told police that he killed the family’s three goldfish because he “didn’t want to leave any witnesses.”
Police say the boy — who is either really dumb or the world’s biggest smartass — poured “hot sauce, mustard, ketchup and spices” into the fish tank, killing the fish, according to Chicago suburban newspaper The Daily Herald. The 16-year-old has been charged with residential burglary and cruelty to animals. Two other boys, ages 15 and 17, were also charged with burglary.
Arlington Heights Police Sgt. Mike Hernandez told D-H he found the boy’s action “disturbing,” and that the teens had targeted the residence after it was evacuated after a fire.
The police report reportedly says the boys stole a video game system, a CD player, approximately 30 video games and DVDs, a BB gun, jewelry and a safe. Police recovered some of the stolen items from area pawn shops.
