Karla DelGallo, the New Jersey mother of a baby killed by a tree branch while the pair walked through New York’s Central Park remains in the hospital in stable condition. Her 6-month-old baby Gianna Ricciutti was pronounced dead after the branch fell 40 feet and struck both the mother and baby in the head — DelGallo was holding Gianna in her arms at the time.
The accident happened just before 2 p.m. Saturday while families were enjoying the crowded zoo on a hot summer day. As father Michael Ricciutti prepared to take a photo of his wife, who held their daughter in her arms, outside the sea lion exhibit in Central Park Zoo, witnesses describe hearing a snap, NYPD sources tell NBCNewYork.
