Man sent to prison for girl’s death

A man suffering from mental illness has been sentenced to 29 years in prison for the murder of a 10-year-old neighbor girl.

James Pagan, 32, was sentenced Monday to 29-years-to-life in prison for killing Tessa Faith Walker and wounding her 14-year-old sister last year as they walked near their home in the quiet, gated Hidden Valley Lake subdivision.

He pleaded guilty last month to first-degree murder and using a knife in the attack.

Pagan stabbed Tessa Walker 35 times, including in the heart. Her sister, Kristen Walker, who suffers from a mild form of Down syndrome, was stabbed once in the back.
