Teens could get 25 years for torturing cat
While it might seem like a harsh sentence, it might be preventing a couple of potential future serial killers from going wild.
Hynes said they then set the animal on fire, causing deep wounds and fourth-degree burns. The blaze also damaged the building, which has other units that are occupied.
The cat was found outside, unable to move and crying but still alive, the district attorney said.
They face charges of second-degree arson, second-degree burglary and aggravated animal cruelty and could spend up to 25 years in prison if convicted.

A little harsh? really? Granted these two are probably troubled, but 25 years, times 2, for a cat? This is from a culture that kills hundreds of thousands if not millions of chickens, cows, pigs, lamb and fish every day for food. We literally have factories that butcher them. We have animal “shelters” that kill any stray animal they don’t adopt out within a certain time. Just a little while ago TV was covered with that bad meat packing plant in CA that was driving fork lifts into sick cows like spears, none of these people get 25 years in jail.
Use common sense, give these two kids many hundreds of hours of community service, maybe at one of our “no kill” animal shelters… if you can find one. Do both them and their neighborhood some good instead of spending my tax dollars to ruin their future with an outlandish jail sentence!

Sure they are animals, fowls, fish ,lobsters, crabs, all types of food from the sea, are used for food to eat. But a cat, dog, pets, stray or other wise, should not be killed for fun and games to entertain themselves.
Any one who abuses animals should have to pay in some way.
Jail time? why not?,if you go easy on sickos like those two fellows, where do you think they will be in a few years time ?

People kill animals all of the time…but those two sound sick. They probably would have kept on torturing animals..then upgrading to torturing people. I bet they learned their lesson. If not, then we may have a couple of serial killers.

first of all “Eric” -you apparently have a hard differentiating between right and wrong and downright EVIL
animals shelters that “put down” animals do so as humanely as possible. and those poor animals who cannot find a home and are left in abandoned apartments, dark basements of scrounging out of garbage dumps to find a morsel of food are most definitely better off returning to the spiritual world then living a life unloved and/or in pain. get educated. open your eyes.
what these two MAGGOTS did is in no way whatsoever, not by any stretch of a warped imagination, remotely similar to what heart-broken vets must do to the END the suffering of homeless or sick animals. have you ever worked in a shelter? i venture to guess not. well, i have. and guess what? those vets became vets because they LOVE and RESPECT animals and take an oath to do so and treat them as humanely as possible. as for cattle wrangling practices and farm animal treatment: that is a different story. many many people do not approve of the methods used in these industries and hello… duh! legislation is being introduced to change this problem. don’t read the news much do you? Proposition 2: the Prevention of Farm Animal Cruelty Act passed in California.
What happened in Brooklyn is quickly becoming epidemic in urban communities.
Michael Vick’s case shed light on Dog Fighting among young black men (as stated by the Humane Society) ….”urban youths” in Baltimore recently doused a pitbull with gasoline and set her on fire, a 17 yr old girl in the Bronx, Cheyenne Cherry, ransacked her ex-roommates apartment and threw her 2 mo old kitten in a burning oven, leaving the animal to die a horrible death. there is a petition 15,000 and growing by the minute to request she be tried as an adult… http://www.thepetitionsite.com/332/petition-to-have-cheyenne-cherry-tried-as-adult
Dr. Randall Lockwood, ASPCA Senior Vice President, Anti-Cruelty Field Services:
“Some forms of intentional cruelty stem from true mental illness, such as psychopathic personality or conduct disorder. It is the intentional acts that are of course the most disturbing and which can carry the highest penalties, since we know such acts can also be associated with serious crimes against people.”
community service? really?

Eric…. what I do not think you realize is that torturing helpless animals for “fun” is a major sign of conduct disorder. Conduct disorder is the childhood equivalent of antisocial personality disorder. This disorder embodies a serious lack of any moral or legal standards, and follow rules set forth by society. In other words, a sociopath. 25 years is not an outlandish jail sentence for these two. The time that they spend is prison could very well stop a human being from being raped, tortured, set on fire and murdered. These two young men could very well be future serial killers. Eric, you really should be more educated before you make such remarks. It is not merely the fact that they tortured an animal, it is the lack of morality shown.

I think that is horrible, what happened to the cat, but the person in the report is a bit stupid sounding, there is no such thing as a fourth-degree burn, the most severe is third degree, I work at a burn institute, so I actually do have sufficent knowledge to point that out.
I rescued my kitty from a similar fate that was going to be perpetrated by drunk men.
