Teen texted before fatal car crash

Tuesday, August 19th, 2008

Authorities are indicating that records show a 16-year-old girl who died in a fatal car crash was texting on her phone moments before impact.

Kayla Preuss, of Highland, was driving on the Interstate 10 Freeway in Redlands when she lost control of her car and crashed. She died of head injuries.

Authorities say Preuss had been driving drunk and was speeding. But another factor may have contributed to the crash.

Phone records show Preuss was texting just before the accident. Her cell phone, which was flipped open, was found resting on the floorboard by her feet.

Toddler diagnosed with STD

Tuesday, August 19th, 2008

Our hope is that somehow it turns out there was an innocuous way the STD was contracted.

A 2-year-old child brought to a hospital for treatment was found to have an STD, according to a police report. Police are not releasing the type of STD or any additional information pending further investigation.

“It’s something a 2-year-old should in no way be exposed to,” said Lt. David Young, spokesman for Lufkin Police Department.
