Boy reunited with family after boating accident
A 13-year-old involved in a boating accident that killed his mother and little sister was turned over to relatives.
On Sunday, RCMP sent out about 20 people in 10 boats to comb an area of the Mackenzie Delta for two others who are presumed drowned - the boy’s grandfather and a 40-year-old man who is a distant relative.
Staff Sgt. Bill Eubank said the boy, who comes from a well-known, large family in the Inuvik area, has been reunited with members of his extended family after managing to make it to shore, where he spent 48 hours waiting to be rescued.
On Saturday, a boater who had joined the search spotted the teen sitting on the rugged shore about 64-kilometres northwest of Inuvik, and quickly piloted his boat in to pick him up.
