15-year-old fatally struck by train
A teen was struck by on oncoming train as he and a friend were crossing the tracks. The friend just barely managed to get himself to safety.
The second boy, also 15 and from West Roxbury, managed to scramble onto the station platform and avoid injury when the 6 p.m. eastbound express train sounded its whistle, according to Transit Police Lieutenant Michael Shea.
Another train had passed by in the opposite direction shortly before the accident, and the boys may have mistakenly thought it was clear to cross, Shea said.
At the scene, a white sheet covered the body as it lay on the platform until shortly before 9 p.m., when the medical examiner arrived. The train had pushed the boy down the tracks about 30 yards, from one end of the platform to the other, Shea said.
