Carnival ride accident sends kids plummeting to the ground

Saturday, May 17th, 2008

This is why those home-town carnival rides makes me so incredibly nervous — bohemian gypsies, Jack Daniels and parts pieced and rigged together from from junk yard parts and Home Depot wires — uh, no thanks.

“It dropped down and dragged the kids around in circles,” Phillip Coulson, whose godson was on the ride, told KTXL-TV in Sacramento, about 80 miles southeast of the annual fair. “Two girls got hurt and my godson, he just scraped his knees.”

Some of the victims were thrown through the air as chains snapped, and three riders were airlifted to hospitals in Modesto and Sacramento.

Sean Ranney, who had exited the ride right before it crashed, described the scene to the Union Democrat.

“We just saw people bouncing off the ground and hitting the ride,” he said. “It happened three times. It bounced, bounced and bounced, then people started hitting the ground.”
Related.

Another witness, Cassidy Dean, 18, said in the Union Democrat story that she had been standing at the base of the ride when it went out of control.

“I just saw all these little kids smashed into the ground.”

Investigators were trying to determine if the accident was caused by mechanical or human error, and workers reportedly were being tested to determine if drugs may have played a role, KTXL-TV reported.

Teens may have been sexually assaulted while passed out

Saturday, May 17th, 2008

Teenagers, a day off of school, sex, drugs and loitering — what could possibly go wrong?

LOS ANGELES — Two teenage boys have been arrested in connection with the alleged sexual assault of at least one of three girls who passed out at a San Fernado Valley park, police said.

A 16-year-old boy and a 15-year-old boy were arrested Friday after police interviewed several students believed to be at Mason Park in Chatsworth around the time the high school freshmen girls were there on Thursday. The older teen was booked on suspicion of sexual battery and the younger boy was booked on suspicion of sexual assault on a victim incapable of defending herself, Detective Mike Fesperman said.

Investigators believe the girls — one found unconscious in the men’s bathroom, and the others near picnic tables — were drugged, but they also may have been drinking.

8 year old arrested for arson

Saturday, May 17th, 2008

Okay, how in the world can you hold an 8 year old accountable for doing something that she cannot fully comprehend? They should arrest her parents for their lack of supervision. How does an 8 year old have that much autonomy anway?

I think all involved, the parents and the police qualify for the “dumbass awards”.

Police say an 8-year-old girl who lived at 319 Central Avenue in Norwich deliberately set the fire on April 30th.

She’s charged with third degree larceny, but neighbors say she’s not the one to blame.
“I think the parents should be responsible for it’s a child. Where did she get the lighter, things like that. The parents’s fault,” said Susan Bogan of Norwich.

Boyfriend uses toddler’s food money to go to strip club

Saturday, May 17th, 2008

Some solutions are better thought out than others, the solution to leave your girlfriend’s hungry toddler in a car while you go into a strip club — not such a good choice.

The topper: The girlfriend, who was at work, gave Baxter $20 to buy dinner for her 3-year-old daughter. The 20-year-old man instead used it for the cover charge and stripper tips at Shotgun Willie’s.

The manager of Fascinations porn shop next-door came to the rescue - flagging down a police officer May 10 to report the toddler alone in the locked car with the driver’s side window opened 3 inches.

“The child appeared very afraid, and seemed to ‘cower’ in the rear seat,” a Glendale officer wrote in the police report. “There was no food or water left in the vehicle.”
