If we had to teach high school in Waukegan, Illinois, we might have to take a few bong hits ourselves.
A math teacher at Waukegan High School was arrested earlier this week on marijuana charges after she was caught smoking pot in a staff washroom.
Police say Deborah Logan, 46 was smoking in a teacher’s lounge bathroom when security officers confronted her. School security confiscated about one gram of marijuana from Logan, said Waukegan Police Cmdr. Wayne Walles.
There is no indication that Logan, of Evanston, was selling or buying drugs from students, Walles said.

A newborn that was found in a St. Louis yard waste dumpster is recovering in state custody.
“The baby was about a foot down right up against the front of the dumpster,” said Wesley Falker in an interview with Fox 2 Tuesday.
Falker found the newborn baby boy inside the dumpster just before nine. The scene was just behind Wesley’s home on the 5700 hundred block of Waterman. Wesley tells Fox 2 he was just about to throw his lawn clippings into the dumpster when he heard a sound.
“I started to reach for the trash can and I heard the baby cry,” explained Falker.

Having a blood-alcohol content of 0.578 is an insane level for an adult, much less a 15-year-old girl.
Rohnert Park police say the 15-year-old girl’s blood-alcohol content was 0.578 — seven times the level for drunken driving — when she was hospitalized over the weekend.
A police spokesman says after being taken by ambulance to a hospital Friday night, doctors feared she would not live through the night.
Police say the girl had been at party at a home with a group of friends, with no adults present.

Note to substitute teachers: better not make with the Harry Potter in Florida classrooms. Or time travel back to Salem during the 1600s, as this teacher obviously must have done:
Jim Piculas said he made a toothpick disappear and reappear in front of students at the Rushe Middle School in Land ‘O Lakes, Fla., Local6.com reported. He said he later got a call from the supervisor of teachers, saying he had been accused of wizardry.
“I get a call the middle of the day from head of supervisor of substitute teachers. He says, ‘Jim, we have a huge issue. You can’t take any more assignments. You need to come in right away,’” he told Local6.com.

We think a vast majority of parents would be willing to lay down their own lives for our children. Fortunately, most of us don’t have to prove it. Sadly that was not the case for a father in Chicago:
Joseph Richardson was walking his daughter Kaniyah to a McDonald’s for burgers late Monday when a car jumped the curb. Police say the 39-year-old Richardson grabbed his daughter just before the car slammed the two into a fence.
Richardson was pronounced dead at the scene. Kaniyah was taken to Comer Children’s Hospital in serious condition.
Police say the driver of the car, 32-year-old Angelo Thomas of Chicago, was charged with two felony counts of aggravated DUI. Witnesses say the man was driving erratically before the accident.

A Virginia man went on a brutal rampage and shot his girlfriend and their two children, ages 1 and 2, before turning the gun on himself.
The man, Aaron Poseidon Jackson, age 24, apparently shot the his girlfriend, Latasha Nicole Thomas, age 23, with an AK-47 type assault rifle, then he took a handgun, went to their children’s bedroom and shot both kids in the head while they lay in their cribs.
The children have been identified as Nicole Aaron Jackson, age 2 and a half years and Aaron Neptune Jackson age one and half years.
According to investigators, Latasha had called a family member two times during the day and asked to be picked up because she was being physically assaulted by the children’s father, but approximately at 9:30 pm, she called that family member back and said there was no need because “everything was ok”.
