A tragic ending for a young boy when a soccer goal post fell over, hit him in the head, causing fatal injuries. The accident happened because the soccer goal was not properly anchored into the ground.

Although the article claims the YMCA was going to pay funeral costs, this is an instance where a settlement is probably in order. Although the posts aren’t meant to be hanging off of, he was only 8 and the after school program should have provided safety and supervision that was obviously lacking.

Gabriel Mendoza was hanging on the crossbar of a soccer goal post around 6 p.m. Thursday when it fell.

Gabriel was at a soccer game with his grandmother, said YMCA spokeswoman Norma Salas. He was participating in a YMCA after-school program called Activate Area.

A “mother” (and we use the term loosely here) shot her 8 year old daughter in the leg in order to win a buck after being dared by her boyfriend that she wouldn’t do it. The mother happily obliged after drinking a 6-pack or more, and shot her daughter in the leg with a BB gun.

SHEBOYGAN, Wis. - A 28-year-old woman shot her 8-year-old daughter in the thigh with a BB gun to win a $1 bet with her boyfriend, according to authorities.

Angelique R. Vandeburg was charged with one felony count of intentional child abuse. She made an initial court appearance Friday and was released on a $5,000 signature bond.

The girl told police the shot hurt so much that she couldn’t walk, according to a criminal complaint.

The teenager said she was alone and taking a shower around 5:30 a.m. Wednesday to get ready for school. Then the contractions took over.

“I felt his head coming, so I sit down and pushed so he could come out,” she said.

Parra did not call 911 because the home phone was disconnected, and she did not want to wake the neighbors because it was so early. Instead, she wrapped the baby, got dressed and went to the hospital on foot.

“I started walking and jogging to the hospital,” she said.

The teen came into the hospital lobby and asked for help, Perez said.

“She still had the placenta and the baby was still attached, so of course everyone said, ‘Don’t move!”‘ he said.

The parents of a 5-year-old South Side boy critically wounded when he accidently shot himself in the head Saturday evening have been charged with endangering the life and health of a child, a misdemeaner, Chicago police said early Sunday.

Cortney Rodgers Sr., 26, the boy’s father, and his mother, Dorothy Hayden, 27, of the 6100 block of South Wabash Avenue, are scheduled to appear in court on the charges May 19. Rodgers also has been charged with violating the state’s registration laws for firearms owners, also a misdemeaner.
