Dad accidentally shoots son, thought he was a turkey

Sunday, April 20th, 2008

Wow, we can’t even imagine the grief and guilt this dad must be going through right now.

The Sibley County Sheriff says that a man who accidentally shot and killed his 9-year-old son while they were hunting apparently mistook the boy for a turkey.

Sheriff Bruce Ponath says that Anthony Klaseus of Belle Plaine and his son Hunter were hunting turkey about three miles west of Belle Plaine around 6:30 p.m. Saturday when Klaseus shot his son in the chest with a 12 gauge shotgun.

Klaseus dialed 911 on his cell phone. Emergency responders pronounced the boy dead at the scene.

MT certainly hopes he pulls through.

A 7-year-old boy suffered life-threatening injuries Saturday night after being struck by an ambulance on North 11th Street.

The boy was riding his bicycle on Phillips Street about 8:30 p.m. and was struck by the ambulance as he tried to cross the street near the intersection, according to police. He was thrown from the bike.

The same ambulance that struck the child took him to St. John’s Hospital. Police did not release the name of the ambulance company.

Sunday, April 20th, 2008

Well, that’s not something that you find everyday…

The children, ranging in age from 11 to 13 years old, where playing with a ball north of Bethune Beach near Sun Village when their ball went into the backyard of a home in the 4200 block of South Atlantic Avenue, according to the report. The Sheriff’s Office is talking to the residents of the home, which investigators say has a large yard with grass at least 2 feet tall.

The remains, described by the Sheriff’s Office as “mostly skeletal,” were found about 3 feet from a sea wall.

Students with peanut allergies gets bullied

Sunday, April 20th, 2008

A Kentucky middle schooler, suffering from peanut allergies, was the target of a new kind of bullying that puts her life at risk. Students that get wind of these types of allergies (food allergies) have fatal weapons at their disposal, usually found not further than their own pantries.

Students with food allergies are finding that being victimized by bullies can put them as serious, if not life threatening risk.

As the students neared the end of their lunchtime, a student was seen putting the crumbled cookies in the allergic student’s lunchbox, she said.

It was well known the other student suffered from severe peanut allergies, Deffendall said. There was no known history of problems between the two 13-year-old students, she said.

After an investigation, the student was arrested on a felony wanton endangerment charge and has been removed from the school, Deffendall said.

A person is charged with felony, or first-degree, wanton endangerment when someone is suspected of engaging in conduct that causes the danger of death or physical injury to another person, according to state legal statutes.

The student will face charges in the juvenile criminal justice system.

Man confessed to killing his infant daughter by punching her repeatedly in the stomach

Sunday, April 20th, 2008

Ugh. And this “father” didn’t call an ambulance until 5 hours as he punched his infant over and over again the stomach - even though she immediately had difficulty breathing after the beating.

How anybody could think that sucker punching an infant repeatedly is a good idea is beyond us.

Larnell Mace told police he punched 4-month-old Jasmine Mace in the stomach five to six times because she wouldn’t stop crying. His confession followed several other stories he told officers, including a claim that he accidentally stepped on his daughter and an admission to smoking marijuana the afternoon she died, said Lake County Assistant State’s Attorney Steve Scheller.
