Police: Texas boy murdered, not crushed

Thursday, March 27th, 2008

After an autopsy of Eliseo Gonzalez Jr., a boy in La Joya Texas who previously was believed to have been crushed by his morbidly obese aunt, it’s been discovered that little Eliseo didn’t die because of a fat ass, but rather due to 2 blows to the head. This qualifies as one of the weirdest cover up stories ever. Hopefully his aunt will soon be able to go on the “rotting away in a jail cell” diet.

Mayra Lizbeth Rosales, who weighs at least 800 pounds, had told police that she slipped and hit the boy’s head with her hand and that he fell from a chair. But investigators said the boy died of two blows to the head. The autopsy also found skull fractures that were estimated to be about a month old.

The 27-year-old bedridden woman was photographed and fingerprinted at her La Joya home before being released on a personal recognizance bond, Hidalgo County Sheriff Lupe Trevino said.

Rosales’ sister and the boy’s mother, Jamie Lee Rosales, was arrested on a charge of injury to a child, accused of failing to protect the boy. She was being held on $50,000 bond. A capital murder conviction could carry a possible sentence of life in prison or the death penalty.

Craigslist baby a hoax

Wednesday, March 26th, 2008

Looks like Birdie Avery pissed off a few delinquents in her life or Lebanon Oregon is a cr@phole or insanely boring…

LEBANON, Ore. — A Lebanon couple said Tuesday they were the victims of a sick joke after someone used their name to list a baby for sale.

An ad on Craigslist.org said the baby’s mother wasn’t coming back. It also said the posters of the ad were out of “tweak,” or drugs, and would sell the baby for $1,000.

An e-mail address attached to the ad included the name Birdie Avery. But a woman who shares the same name in Lebanon said she doesn’t recognize the baby. She said she and her husband don’t own a computer.

Girl dies when parents trade medical intervention for prayer

Wednesday, March 26th, 2008

MT is putting this under child abuse since this family chose to allow their daughter to suffer rather than get her help for a very curable disease…

WESTON, Wis. (AP) - The mother of an 11-year-old rural Weston girl who died of untreated diabetes says she didn’t know her daughter was terminally ill as she prayed for her to get better instead of taking her to the doctor.

Madeline Neumann died Sunday from an undiagnosed and treatable form of diabetes.

Her mother, Leilani Neumann, tells The Associated Press her daughter’s condition worsened suddenly, and the parents stayed in prayer, believing she would recover.

St. Charles teenager faces felony hate crime charges for graffiti

Wednesday, March 26th, 2008

A 14-year-old student at St. Charles East High School in St. Charles, Illinois has been charged with a felony hate crime after scribbling “disparaging comments” on a black girl’s locker (the boy is white). The twist? The girl is the boy’s ex-girlfriend:

According to the state’s attorney’s office, the boy also drew a stick figure of a person in a noose on his computer. At some point the girl saw it and became alarmed — leading to the hate crime charge, the state’s attorney’s office said.

On Tuesday, a Kane County juvenile court judge ruled that there was no urgent or immediate need to hold the boy in the county’s juvenile jail. The judge also ruled that the boy cannot initiate contact with the girl.

St. Charles East High School is on spring break this week. The judge ruled the boy can return to school, pending any punishment by the school district.

Sounds like a boy who had his heart broken and did some really dumb things. Is a felony charge warranted here?

Preemie health problems can last into adulthood

Wednesday, March 26th, 2008

As parents of a preemie ourselves (he was born at 32 weeks), a recent study has done nothing to reduce our already irrational hand wringing and paranoia. The study, published in the Journal of the American Medical Association, shows that besides the obvious risks premature babies face when they are born, they may have health problems that extend into adulthood:

Women born prematurely are at greater risk of themselves giving birth preterm or having stillborn children, and their babies have higher rates of death in the first year.

The earlier babies were born, the greater their risk of all these problems, according to the study, which included detailed records from more than 1 million Norwegians born between 1967 and 1988. The study “reminds us that prematurity is a very significant health problem that lasts a lifetime,” says David Adamkin, a spokesman for the American Academy of Pediatrics, who was not involved in the paper.

In an editorial that accompanies the study, researchers Melissa Adams and Wanda Barfield say doctors might be able to better identify and manage chronic conditions if they know a patient was born prematurely.

Adamkin, the director of newborn medicine at the University of Louisville School of Medicine, says the study reinforces the need to reduce preterm birth. The U.S. preterm birth rate — 12.7% — has increased 20% since 1990, the March of Dimes says.

More details released about Iowa City murders

Wednesday, March 26th, 2008

More information has been released about Steven Sueppel, who killed his wife and four children before dying himself in a fiery car crash. Apparently Sueppel first tried to kill his family by carbon monoxide poisoning, and when that didn’t work he went on a rampage with a baseball bat:

Sueppel succeeded in killing himself early Monday in a fiery crash, police said, but only after leaving a note and voice mails at his home and at the offices of relatives and co-workers, explaining his actions.

Authorities disclosed details Tuesday of the hours before Sueppel, accused of stealing $560,000 from his bank, rammed the family van into the concrete base of a highway sign about 9 miles east of Iowa City. Sueppel died when the van erupted in flames, police said.

Starting about 11:30 p.m. Sunday, Sueppel, 42, began leaving voice mails at the offices of relatives and ex-colleagues apologizing profusely, saying the shame he brought on his family was too much to bear, Iowa City police said.

“The statements went toward the children and wife being in a better place,” Sgt. Troy Kelsay said. “But it’s pretty personal, and I’m not comfortable commenting more on that.”

Chicago man gets 13 years for selling boy for sex

Wednesday, March 26th, 2008

Tommy Christopher Cox, 32, was convicted last November for selling an Atlanta boy for sex in Chicago hotel rooms. Yesterday Cox was sentenced to 13 years in prison.

In October, Cox pleaded guilty to possessing more than 800 stolen credit-card numbers that he used to rent hotel rooms in Chicago at which he would host parties and sell the boy for sex.

Cox’s attorney, Gal Pissetzky, asked the judge for a 5-year sentence, while prosecutors sought up to 15 1/2 years. Pissetzky said his client plans to appeal.

Aurora man sentenced to 20 years for child porn

Wednesday, March 26th, 2008

A man in Aurora, Illinois has been sentenced to 20 years behind bars for trading child pornography through an internet chat room. Alan Jungels, 45, was caught last January as part of a huge pedophile network sting conducted by Australian police.

In March 2006, then-U.S. Atty. Gen. Alberto Gonzales announced in Chicago that federal authorities had shut down the chat room and that 27 people were charged in the U.S., Australia, Britain and Canada.

Prosecutors said Jungels used the screen name “Big-al-43895″ when trading the pornography in chat rooms with titles such as “incest” and “daddy-daughter.”

Iowa City father suspected in family slaying

Tuesday, March 25th, 2008

A van found crashed and on fire contained a fatality, who is believed to be Steven Sueppel, as the van was registered to him. Sueppel is the prime suspect in the murder of his wife and four children, found dead in their home Monday morning.

The matter began when dispatchers received a call at 6:31 a.m. saying officers needed to respond to the Barrington Road home immediately. The caller then hung up.

Officers arrived to the unlocked house, then entered and found the five bodies inside, according to a news release from the Iowa City Police Department.

Authorities said they were not able to locate Sueppel, and that the family’s van was missing.

Court records show that Sueppel was indicted by a grand jury last month on charges of stealing about $560,000 from the bank where he worked.

“Given the nature of the call, and the fact that Steven Sueppel was recently charged with embezzlement … there was some concern for the safety of the occupants,” Kelsay told The Associated Press, when asked why they entered the house.

Police didn’t specify how the family was killed. Initial alerts said there had been a shooting at the home, but Kelsay said further investigation shows the deaths could be the result of some other trauma.

Rabid Easter Bunny could be charged with child abuse

Tuesday, March 25th, 2008

A man dressed in as the Easter Bunny is suspecting of dropping an infant on the ground, resulting in bruising and potential charges…

Paul Clough was arrested Friday after he became irritated while posing with children for photographs and allegedly placed an 8-month-old baby on the ground. Sometime during that process, the baby was injured and suffered a bruise to his forehead, MyFOXAustin reports.

Police are still investigating if the injury was accidental or intentional. The baby’s parents took him to the hospital, where he was treated and released.

Baby born without bones

Tuesday, March 25th, 2008

The parents of a baby boy who was born with a rare condition — missing bones from his arms and legs, must consider total amputation or 8 year long, excrutiating reconstructive surgery which is expensive and painful.

THE parents of a baby boy with a rare condition which could see his legs and an arm amputated, want their brave little boy to be an example to others.
Seven-month-old Cavan Kirkham-MacCallum has hemimelia, which means he was born without crucial bones in his arms and legs.

He is a happy little boy but his future means facing the option of amputation or painful limb reconstruction, which is only available in America and may not be effective.

Cavan’s condition was discovered by his parents, Bernadette and James of Allerton Drive, Burnley, during an ultrasound scan. But so little is known about it that no doctors could give the couple, who have an older son, Joey (6), any real information.

Sex offender doesn’t like his sentence

Tuesday, March 25th, 2008

A sex offender who admitted to molesting a small boy, but was originally charged with several counts of molesting prepubscent children is boo-hoo-ing his sentence, which includes putting up signs on his house and car designating him a sex offender. He thinks it’s been “pure hell”. What did he expect…a diamond studded tierra for his “troubles”?

Apparently, he doesn’t like to face the truth and doesn’t think other families have a right to know he likes to molest little children. I guess in his selfish mind, only he has the right to know the dangers and horrific abuse he enflicted on small children and should be able to carry on, preying on small children with ease.

I say, “Hooray for the Judge!” A judge with priorities, honor and integrity. Thank you.

District Judge Ron Svaty, you get ‘em!

Schad, 72, was originally charged with four counts of taking indecent liberties with a 9-year-old girl and an 11-year-old boy in 2005. He was allowed to plead guilty in March 2007 to a lesser charge of aggravated indecent solicitation of a child, and the original charges were dismissed.

District Judge Ron Svaty sentenced him to five years of probation and house arrest, and ordered him to post the signs during his punishment.

Schad is appealing the sign requirement. He could have faced about three years behind bars.
“I know that I deserve something for that, but I don’t think I deserve what I got,” he said.
The signs went up a few months ago. Schad said the loneliness and isolation imposed by the house arrest are the toughest to deal with.

“It’s been pure hell,” said Schad, who has lived in the town since 1971.

Grandmother burned when children put cans in oven

Tuesday, March 25th, 2008

I would hesitate to suggest that Granny was actually babysitting or watching the tots as one of them (or several of them), ages 1 - 4, were allowed enough unsupervised time to stick aerosol cans in an oven which exploded.

Where was Granny???

Unfortunatley, Granny did get hurt during the explosion.

Pompano Beach - A 54-year-old grandmother was hospitalized after the children she was babysitting put aerosol spray cans into an oven, causing the appliance to explode and burn her, authorities said Monday.

The explosion happened Saturday in an apartment in the 100 block of Southwest 8th Street about 7:25 p.m., Pompano Beach city spokeswoman Sandra King said. The woman was babysitting five children, ages 1 to 4. Three of them were her grandchildren. One of the children put two aerosol spray cans into the oven, King said..

Pregnant woman tortured to death

Sunday, March 23rd, 2008

5 adults and one 12 year old boy are charged with the murder and torture of a developmentally delayed pregnanat woman, whose 1 year old son was found starving.

There is a special place in hell for these people. This is just so horrific. How can people be so sadistic? How is this level of evil even possible?

Hayes said things apparently came to a head Jan. 30, when investigators believe that Woods, during a dispute, beat Dixon on the head with an object Hayes wouldn’t identify. The next day Woods found her dead.

Hayes watched the autopsy and found her injuries disturbing. X-rays revealed roughly 30 BBs lodged in her. Deep-tissue burns covered about one-third of her body — her face, her chest, her arms and feet — and left her severely dehydrated. Her face and body showed signs of prolonged abuse. Many of her wounds were infected.

None of the injuries, Hayes said, proved singly fatal to Dixon. Her system already was taxed by her unborn baby.

“The autopsy sort of indicates her immune system just shut down,” he said. “It was not capable of fending off any more.”

Toddler crushed to death by obese relative

Sunday, March 23rd, 2008

A toddler’s aunt who reportedly weights upwards of 800 pounds, sat on him and crushed his skull.

Geeze. I used to think that fat people ruined their own health, but now their problem killed an innocent baby - how sick and awful! Plus, there are several reports of previous child abuse by Child Protection Services, so the police investigation is going to determine whether or not this was done on purpose.

MT will file this under child abuse until new information proves otherwise…even if it wasn’t done on purpose, the little boy shouldn’t have been alone with a bed ridden aunt who weighs 800 hundred, frickin’ pounds!

LA JOYA - Authorities suspect a morbidly obese, bedridden woman caused the skull fracture that killed her 2-year-old nephew earlier this week.

The toddler - Eliseo Gonzalez Jr. - died Tuesday after police found him unresponsive at her home on the 800 block of Rancho Escondido, on the city’s east side

Hidalgo County sheriff’s deputies remain tight-lipped about how the injury was inflicted, but Justice of the Peace Bobby Contreras said Friday they believe the woman somehow fell on the child.

Contreras, who pronounced the toddler dead at Rio Grande Regional Hospital in McAllen, estimated the boy’s aunt weighed more than 800 pounds.
