Moms pride in being “the meanest mom on the planet”

Hail to the “mean” muthas of the world!

When a teenager broke the house rules by hiding alcohol under the seat of his car, his mother follows through with a threat that makes this mother a role model for parents all over…

DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) — Jane Hambleton has dubbed herself the “meanest mom on the planet.”

After finding alcohol in her son’s car, she decided to sell the car and share her 19-year-old’s misdeed with everyone — by placing an ad in the local newspaper.

The ad reads: “OLDS 1999 Intrigue. Totally uncool parents who obviously don’t love teenage son, selling his car. Only driven for three weeks before snoopy mom who needs to get a life found booze under front seat. $3,700/offer. Call meanest mom on the planet.”

CNN commentator wanted to say it, but didn’t finish it.

“Being a parent, not a friend”…best advice in 50 years.

Good for her! I wish there were more parents like this, instead of the kind who would supply the booze for their kids…

Time for that kid to leave home! Selling the car’s one thing, but gloating about it so luridly really does make her the world’s rottenest mom. She just marked her kid for life - I bet there’s a MySpace hate page making fun of him already.

Bet ya five bucks he kills her before July?

Speaking as a person who lost a very dear friend to a drunk-driving accident at the age of 17 to the mother of the teenager I want to say Thank you. I pray that your child will never know the pain of that type of loss, and to you I pray with all of my soul that you never have to face the ultimate loss, that of a child. I can remember the pain of my friends parents after all of these years it still breaks my heart. I know this may sound unfair but I believe that anyone who drinks and drives should have this punishment: To have to spend one day at the local morgue to watch as a loved one has to identify their spouse, parent or child. To see the pain they may have or may cause if they drink and drive.

To the teenager who’s mother sold the car, I want to say to you that you may be so angry at your mother now but one day I do pray that you look back at this and Thank your mother for saving your life or the life of someone else a friend or stranger either way if you would drink and drive and hurt or kill someone the guilt would be with you for the rest of your life, which is something that I would never wish on anyone.
Please for your parents, siblings (if you have any), friends, neighbors or the stranger driving on the roads with you. Please take this to heart and never do this ever again.

My thoughts and prayers are with you.

Bravo! You have my support. Disiplining a teenager in our country is an impossible task. We are left with only our imaginations to work with. It seems as if public humiliation is the only resource left to us as parents. Somehow kids have forgotten, “Mom giveth, Mom taketh away”. Driving is a priviledge, not a right. I believe there hasn’t been a law passed that fibids revocation of priviledges. However, after this I assume there will be one soon.
My youngest son will be of age to drive in 7 months. I plan on printing and framing your article and hanging it around the house!
    Thanks for the help!

Good for you! It was a just outcome for his indiscretion! I would have done the same thing.
