Fake internet identities push girl over the edge

UPDATE

What do all bullies have in common?? They have parents that are bullies too. If you’ve ever spoken with a bullies parent, they generally don’t care about their children’s behavior and in fact, encourage it. It’s a way for them to deal with unresolved issues from their past (I suppose).

How can any parent be a part of a bullying campaign that ultimately lead to a 13 year old’s suicide?…somebody who is creating future sociopaths.

DARDENNE PRAIRIE, Missouri (AP) — Megan Meier thought she had made a new friend in cyberspace when a cute teenage boy named Josh contacted her on MySpace and began exchanging messages with her.

Megan, a 13-year-old who suffered from depression and attention deficit disorder, corresponded with Josh for more than a month before he abruptly ended their friendship, telling her he had heard she was cruel.

The next day Megan committed suicide. Her family learned later that Josh never actually existed; he was created by members of a neighborhood family that included a former friend of Megan’s.

This is a sad and horrifying story. The children living in the home of these parenting bullies never had a chance.

It’s so sick! I don’t understand what could lead adults to behave so hatefully towards a child. :(

She should be thrown in jail as well as sued for damages. What that lady did was criminal h arassment

The problem — right now, there are very few laws on the books to protect people from criminal behavior on the net. That needs to change. We need to be able to prosecute and hold people accountable for criminal behavior on the net.

There are *two* problem parents in this scenario.

The Meier mother - who complained that there should be laws against online harrassment and adults posing as children - signed up her 13 year child even though she knew that MySpace requires participants to be 14.

It seems she put her child into an unsupervised situation before she was mature enough to handle it.

If there should be laws against the “bully moms” in the world, there should be laws against the Mrs. Meiers, too. Both are dangerous to our world’s precious children.

My daughter is not yet 13… but when she is, I won’t allow her to text 16 year old boys!!!

So it’s OK not to harrass your daughter but OK to harrass anyone else. How typical of you people. It worked the same way with slavery.

Seems to be that the people that seek to protect the horrible excuse for a human being that bullied this girl into taking her own life, want to blame the victim.

I suppose they think that if a girl or woman are raped, it’s the victim’s fault too.

if anyone is to be held responsible it should be the girls mother.she is so fast to point the blame when she knows it is entirely her fault.

also, we don’t need more “laws” to protect us from the internet crimes. Some of you people should figure out that the thing does have an off button and words and pictures on a screen cannot hurt you wusses.
