Posted April 10, 2009 at 8:41 am

Just under 100,000 CARS fleece clogs which have been sold at Walmart stores between September 2008 and March 2009 have been recalled due to the wheels on the clogs (go round and round), can fall off and pose a choking hazard. Gasp!

Shoes can be returned to Walmart for a full refund. Only one report of the wheels on the shoes (go round and round) have been reported to have fallen off with no injuries to report, so cancel all your appointments and run, don’t walk, to your nearest Walmart to correct this great misfortune of all misfortunes.

More information is available from the Consumber Product and Safety Commish:

Description: This recall involves the Buster Brown & Co. “CARS” fleece clog children’s shoes. The shoe is a red plastic molded clog with fleece lining and is designed to resemble a car. They were sold in infant sizes 4 to 6 and toddler sizes 7 to 11. The infant-size shoes have a strap in the back. Nordstrom girl’s shoes recalled for lead

Posted March 23, 2009 at 3:57 pm

We think the whole lead paint thing may have just jumped the shark. Nordstrom is recalling its line of “Fab” girl’s shoes, because the outer sole contains an amount of lead over the federal lead paint standard. We’re talking about shoes that go all the way up to a big kids size 7, are children that age really sticking their shoes in their mouths? Petter safe than sorry, we guess.

The shoe styles included are “Clarice-Fab”, “Eva-Fab”, “Fern-Fab”, “Lilly-Fab”, “Rita-Fab”, and “Vivi-Fab”. The shoes were sold at — naturally — Nordstrom stores nationwide between September 2006 through February 2009 for between $35 - $45. Parents are being urged to rip these shoes right off their little one’s feet and take them back to Nordstrom for a full refund or exchange.

Infant sleep garment recall expanded

Posted January 15, 2009 at 3:48 pm

A previous recall of 6,200 Taggies Sleep’n Play infant garments has been expanded to 16,000. The infant wear poses a choking hazard from the snaps. The previous style recalled were the Butterfly Applique and Fun Dog print, now included are the Dinosaur Applique and Pink Toss print versions.

The infant garments are made by Rashti & Rashti, and were sold nationwide at a various retailers such as Babies R Us and Nordstrom for approximately $20. The company advises that you immediately strip your tot of this potentially deadly sleepwear — even if you’re in the middle of the grocery store — and contact them to receive a refund. More information can be found at the Rashti & Rashti website.

Claire’s children’s necklaces recalled

Posted November 12, 2008 at 4:36 pm

yinyangnecklace.jpgFriends who get lead poisoning together, stay together.

Claire’s Boutiques is recalling about 67,000 of its Best Friends Yin Yang Necklaces Sets, after it was found that the necklaces contain high levels of lead. Since we were one of those weirdos in school that liked to chew on our necklace while bored in math class, we can see how that might be a problem. The necklaces were sold at Claire’s stores nationwide between April 2007 through August 2008 and retailed for around $8.

Parents should take away the necklaces from their kids (and their BFF) and return it to Claire’s for a refund.

Camo sweatshirt recalled for strangulation hazard

Posted April 2, 2008 at 2:27 pm

sweatshirt.jpgGreat, now our 4-year-old has nothing to wear when he goes deer hunting. A hooded sweatshirt by Brents-Riordan, Inc. is being recalled because the drawstring in the hood poses a strangulation hazard. As you can imagine, young kids could get entangled in the string, something the CPSC has pointed out since *1996*. Apparently China didn’t get the memo.

About 7,200 of these sweatshirts were sold at stores nationwide for $20 - $30, between July and December 2007. Besides the lovely print on the sweatshirt, you can look for an item number underneath the care label. The item numbers affected by the recall are 11037Y-39 and 1113Y-39. Parents should immediately remove the drawstring, or return the sweatshirt to place of purchase for a full refund. More information is available on the Brents-Riordan website.

Payless Shoes recall due to — choking hazard??

Posted May 2, 2007 at 10:54 am

paylessclogs.jpgI know, it sounds weird to think your kid’s shoes could be a potential danger, but Payless Shoesource has apparently found a way. Their recalling approximately 690,000 of their “Airwalk Compel” (i.e., Crocs knockoff) clogs — it seems the plastic rivets that attach the strap can come loose and are small enough to pose a choking hazard. There’s already been one report of a tot that got one stuck in their throat.

The recall includes all Airwalk Compel clogs sold in “prewalk” size 3 up through toddler size 10, and were sold at Payless, Pamida, and payless.com for $13 from August 2006 - April 2007. Payless says you can return or exchange them at your nearest store. And then maybe think about springing for the real deal, eh?
