Beco Butterfly Baby Carriers Recalled for Fall Hazard
April 22, 2008 at 3:17 pm

becobaby.jpgBetter put down the coffee, lady, you’re going to need both hands free to catch your baby. Because while the Beco Butterfly baby carrier is awfully cute, the shoulder strap buckles can “unexpectedly release tension”, which might unexpectedly release your infant. And unless you have the reflexes of an NFL wide receiver, it might result in your baby falling on the ground. Which is NO GOOD.

The carrier was sold at specialty stores nationwide between January and February 2008, for around $140. Sheesh, at that price you would think they could afford some more quality control. Models affected by the recall are: Mia, Pony Express, Carnival, Addison, Ethan, Sophia, Cameron, Ava and Joshua. Customers are being advised to stop using the carriers immediately, and to contact Beco for instructions to receive a replacement. You can either call them at 888-943-8232 or visit Beco’s website.

Baby Trend Back Pack Recall
March 27, 2007 at 2:18 pm

babytrend.jpgSheesh, it’s baby carrier recall week here at IP. This time Baby Trend has issued a recall for its Back Pack carriers. Apparently the stitching isn’t quite strong enough and can possibly become loose or detach. There’s been one report of a child falling out and smacking their forehead on the ground. Can you imagine taking this on a hike in the mountains? There goes baby over the cliff! The only models included in the recall are style numbers 2512 and 2592LX, sold at discount department stores nationwide between 2002 and 2006. Baby Trend is offering a free replacement carrier, hopefully stitched a little better this time.

Contact Baby Trend’s customer service department at 800-328-7363 with your model number to complete the exchange.

Infantino SlingRider Recall
March 23, 2007 at 4:04 pm

infantino.jpgInfantino has issued a recall of their popular SlingRider baby carrier sold nationwide at Target, Babies ‘R Us, etc., because, whoops, it does the exact opposite of what a sling is supposed to do — hold the baby. It seems the plastic slider on the strap has a tendency to break, and 10 reports have already been filed, with 8 of the kids falling out of the carrier. One of the babies even fractured their skull due to the fall. I could make some sort of Britney Spears joke here, but I don’t want to drive the poor girl back into rehab.

The affected models are ones sold between July 24, 2006 and February 23, 2007 and are marked “Made in China”. Visit Infantino’s website for full details and return information.
