David Cook has already announced two of the songs he'll be singing on next week's Idol.
The three remaining Idols will each perform three songs on Tuesday: one picked by a judge, one by the producers, and one that they choose for themselves.
David has said that his own selection will be the 1995 ballad The World I Know by Georgia rock band, Collective Soul.
And this morning in the middle of a local TV interview, Jason received his orders from judge Simon Cowell.
When his phone bleeped during the FOX 4 Morning Show in Kansas City he apologized saying, "Ok, this is really professional! I'll turn my phone off. But I just got a text from Simon.
"Interesting!", he said before reading the message aloud.
"Hello David. I have chosen First Time Ever I Saw Your Face by Roberta Flack for you to sing on the show on Tuesday."
The 1969 version may have been a Billboard number one and won a Grammy for Best Song, but David didn't seem too happy about taking on a diva classic!
There's no word yet on what his rivals David Archuleta and Syesha Mercado will be doing. |

Every week, hardcore Idol fans scour the Internet trying to find out what the contestants will be singing ahead of time.
But here's a first: this week you can actually watch a video of Syesha Mercado performing her song before the show comes on air!
It turns out that the song that Randy Jackson has chosen for Syesha to perform tonight just happens to be one that she has already performed on a national TV singing contest.
This week, one of each contestant's songs is chosen by producers, one by judge and one by the contestant themselves, and Randy has told Syesha that she will be singing Alicia Keys's Grammy-winning ballad, If I Ain't Got You.
But in just a little bit of history repeating, Syesha sang the same tune on the doomed ABC talent-show The One: The Making Of A Star.
The 20 year old from Sarasota, Fl., was a contestant on the 2006 reality show that was canceled after just four episodes due to disastrous ratings.
But before the ax fell, Syesha gave a sultry rendition of the Keys Billboard hit sitting on top of a grand piano.
This could be seen as quite a competitive advantage for the last woman standing, who is widely regarded as the long-shot for the Idol title.
One of her two fellow finalists, David Cook, looked less than thrilled when he received the news live on a local TV show that he would be singing the diva ballad First Time I Ever Saw Your Face.
Meanwhile, Syesha will be singing a song which is not only in the middle of what the judges would call "her comfort zone" but one that she has already performed on live TV! |

Ugh. Let's just cut to the chase and vote Syesha off. It would be a really boring finale if it was against Syesha and one of the Davids. |

Wow! I just watched the show tonight, and I think Shyesa did very well, but she'll still be voted off probably. I say GO DAVID COOK!!!!!
But last year I really wanted Melinda to win. I couldn't believe my ears when she got voted off!!
David Cook was the best tonight by a long shot! |

Well, Jennifer, looks like your sources were right on!
I was very unimpressed with the performances last night. I mean, of course they sang better than 99.999% of America can, but it was all just kind of boring. It was all a bit *too* polished, if that makes any sense. Seems like previous finalists gave a bit more emotional performances at this point.
Then again, I was listening, not watching, so I don't know if David Lee Cook was crying or melodramatically flashing his hand at the camera or something. |
