I was hoping to find a few more parents who are coping with ADHD kids. My DD was recently diagnosed and we learned that not only is ADD usually an inherited condition - but I'm apparently the poster child for Adult ADD. Not sure yet where I'm going to go with that as far as treatment, but it's comforting to know it wasn't all in my head - - ok, it *IS* all in my head but I was being figurative.

We took DD(11.5) to a child psychiatrist to find out what was wrong, why she was floundering in school for the last couple years when we know she tests as a near-genius. What came back was a not-so-surprising diagnosis of ADHD. we were reluctant to admit she had ADD in the first place, especially after reading the heated discussions here on IP about it being over-diagnosed, etc. But medication is actually helping her and her improvement in school is significant after just a few weeks.

My own (untreated) ADD has been a challenge for me in the workplace, in relationships, in housekeeping and I'm looking for some guidance from a parent in similar circumstances.

We're two for two here in our household. My 8 year old son has ADHD and so do I (well, I have the ADD form as do most girls who are diagnosed with the condition). I have often thought of seeking out medication and I really wish my parents would have consented to medication when I was younger because I'm quite certain I would have had more self-confidence and done better in school and in life. Parents that refuse to diagnose because they think Ritalin is dangerous are doing their child a disservice if the med can truly help him/her.

I can totally relate to the disorganization, especially when it comes to housework. I don't know how to clean or organize, my brain does not compute.

Hunter takes meds for ADHD. My husband and I, although unofficially diagnosed, both show many of the traits of adult ADHD. Only time will tell whether or not it affects the other kiddos too. I am still somewhat indecisive as to whether or not meds are the best choice for my son, but I can't stand the fact that some people with no personal experience with ADHD are so judgemental about it.

I am being totally serious when I say that if they would allow LSD therapy again, it could wipe out adult ADD instantly. I feel 100% certain that it would be totally affective. Of course I am only talking about for adults, not children. I don't think I ever had symptoms of ADD, but I attribute my freakishly long attention span to past LSD use.

My FIL has it, my husband has it, and now my six year old has it (we don't know about the 2.5 year old, but I suspect not at this point). Is anyone else still around here, I notice most of the posts are way old.
