I was saddened by the murder of Bhutto today. But for some reason this article had me laughing out loud. Maybe living in the South has been getting to me. I would not dare to post this on my other local boards or I would be banned in a second!!

Oh man....OK, no I read half the article and didn't find it particularly humorous. I don't really identify myself with the Christian religion, although I do believe Jesus is the son of God and pray to him and say Christian prayers. That might not make sense, but oh well.
See MY belief in God stems from the fact that I believe in evil. I believe in the devil or satan or some other purely evil "thing". I believe in some ancient good/bad thing that happened a long time ago and the world was divided up between them and they fight over our souls constantly. I believe there is some very old "magic" or whatnot that can help ward off the bad and that "magic" is in the ancient prayers and relics, which are distributed among the different religions on earth. These prayers and relics were given to humans by God to protect us and we fucked it all up, being human as we are, maybe we were tempted by the evil thing, maybe we were just inherently greedy and violent on our own, who knows. But, because of whatever, we have the whole thing fucked up here and the devil is happy as can be. Then you get an article like this, putting all the blame of human actions and the devil onto God and Jesus. Sorry, I don't find it particularly funny. I find it sad at the very least and horrifying at the most.
I know, my beliefs are beyond weird, and sorry, it's just how I feel. I try to do my best in my own religion by praying for people HERE and praying for their souls and by trying to be good to other people, because I believe that the devil or whatever great evil thing feeds off of and fuels our hatred, and is easier to deal with if we're all being good to each other. |

PP and I are on the same page on this one.
The problem with humans, we have free will and with that comes right and wrong. Good and evil will always be at odds.
What I think editorials like this fail to mention or separate is that recent religious disputes that get resolved though violence are those of theocracies. The author is confusing religion with theocracies and that's not fair. In secular governments, you aren't seeing the people of those governments blowing themselves up in order to kill a child who has a different religious belief.
It's more of a cultural difference than a religious one IMO.
Although I'm far from being offended, nothing in that editorial made me LOL. |

I think what I found funny was his extreme view to the oppostite of what I hear in the South. His overgeneralizations about religion are pretty similar to the over generalizations I hear here about how Christianity is all good and Muslim's and Atheists are all wrong. Though I do not agree with the article he bring up the absurdity of both extremes. I believe the opposite of this guy since I believe that it is important to respect other people's religion, and my belief is that they all may be true and parts of the whole puzzle. But I guess I was expecting to hear about the tragedy in Pakistan and and instead got this rant which struck me as funny.

While serveing in the Army,I had the privalage of serveing with people of differant religons. Some i didnt aggree with but we still fellowshiped in love n understanding.
Like any religon, there iz extremest in every group.I dont care if its Christians or muslums or even buddist...there will be extremest..I know..I have seen it..once i see who they are i try n correct them n if they dont listen then i leave them n pray for them.I dont have all the answers nor do i claim to have all of the answers..but i do know right from wrong...blowing someone up over a dissaggreement iz wrong..
I also found out after retireing..i dont have Freedom of Religon...one of the Freedoms i fought for i dont get to enjoy..thats why i chose to retire very soon to a country that said they would welcome me n my beliefs with open arms...its just a shame i been lied to all these years by the government i served.
I am a Christian n do believe in the Bible...but i seek out other Christains to learn from them..Proverbs 4:7 ...i do need wisdom n i do need understanding...how can i possibly get those if i say...im always right n others are wrong just cuz we dont believe the same way?
If i offend anyone with this post then im sorry...however im allready offended by America cuz they been asleep for 25 years...allowing laws to be passed that iz worthless...
Examples
War on Drugs...we do need it but there iz limitations
Voteing...almost none do
Where iz the laws on Child Abuse...very little
Drug dealers gets more time the Child Rapest or Child Killers get. Then the child Killers gets condos to live in..while i strugle on my little retirement check...but thats what America has Voted for...Vets are just as worthless as our kids are...according to the laws the voters let be passed.
If im wrong then prove me wrong.
Im not well educated so if any mistakes..please forgive |
