Just as I had suspected. Making abortion illegal is just a band-aid and doesn't really do anything to stop it. Abortion is a symptom of bigger issues and at least here, those issues aren't really addressed. The whole abortion thing, I think, is just a diversion to take our attention away from other things.

The article implies that women in 3rd world countries and eastern European countries have abortions because many women die during childbirth and pregnancy. That is not the case here. In those countries there are more abortions than there are live births. In countries with adequate healthcare, there are as much as 70% more live births than abortions (according to your referenced article).
