| I could argue this all day. If you go to Europe, you will NOT find low fat anything in the stores or restaurants, and there are lots and lots of skinny folks over there. |
True, true. While I think there's a strong argument about the health detriments of saturated fats, hydrogenated oils, etc., and what you choose to eat affects health overall, when it comes to strictly weight gain/loss, the simple ratio is -> calorie intake vs. calories burned. It doesn't matter what substance those calories are made of, as a calorie is a unit of measure.
It's like the old riddle, which weighs more -- a pound of lead or a pound of feathers? |

When and where are we getting a Trader Joe's?!?! (By the way, I also think mayo and anything made with mayo is disgusting!)
I have a whole list of foods that I have to bring back with me every time I go up to Jersey. First on my list is 4C iced tea mix!!! I still don't understand why we don't have that here. I have to order it off Amazon, which aggravates me to no end. And coffee cake, taylor ham, hard rolls....the list goes on and on!
I don't eat any of the no/low fat stuff either. It just doesn't take the same. I still use the whole milk with the red top. If I'm destined to be fat just because I like to eat things that taste ok, so be it! |

The no-no food on my list is yogurt. Maybe it's the weird-sounding name or the fact it has "good bacteria". I just don't like the thought of avoiding bacteria in everyday situations with hand-washing, and then slurping in a big spoonful of fruit-flavored "good bacteria". My GYN once told me "Don't forget to eat plenty of yogurt" without missing a beat I told her "Yeah right. I'd rather die with a horrible yeast infection." I won't let DH near me with that. He left the icky foil lid on the counter the other day and I caught a whiff of it. Blech!!!!! |

Well, yeah, but isn't that kind of a case of blaming the food, not the person choosing to consume it? If you KNOW it has high calories/fat/etc EAT LESS. If you eat full fat foods, you should eat less as a matter of course because it's much more filling. I can't eat more than 1/2 cup of full fat cottage cheese, because it stuffs me. If I'm eating full fat cheese, I eat a small chunk of it, not the entire thing. It's all about personal choice and self control. My big complaint is that places are taking away that choice and offering only the chemically altered versions of many foods, which I personally think are going to be far more dangerous in the long run than the real thing. |

| You could ask why they're doing it. Maybe it's because of the perceived demand for those things. If you speak up to them, then maybe they'd see that the demand isn't there and go back to the regular stuff. |

I'm not sure what argument you're trying to make because we're on the same page here -- I was simply responding to the "fat makes you fat" comment and agreeing with you that it's OK to eat full fat foods as long as you keep an eye on overall calories. Of course the person consuming it is ultimately responsible. |
