Yeah, we did minimum frills with our girls. Frilly stuff was given to us, and Alex picked out the most ridiculous thing for Katie when she was born. It was just hilarious in how over-the-top it was, so we had portraits done in it. Then I gave it to a friend, and when Liz was born the ridiculous dress came back, so we had portraits of her done in it, too.
But, there are so many soft and pretty things for little girls AND because girls are allowed to be transvestites they can wear their older brothers' stuff as well. Liz wears old Alex clothes! Gray or red or blue sweatpants with a sweatshirt, or jeans and a t-shirt. She wore some of the blue and red one-piece suits that were Alex's (and found their way back to us), too. You just have so many options!
Not that boys aren't fun, too. Never would suggest that! |

Ditto that! One of the main benefits, IMO, of having a boy is first that hand me downs work. Ainsley has a built in play wardrobe every year, so I get to concentrate on buying the good stuff.
And I am sooo not into girly or frilly, but I've somehow managed to grow a kid that is in love with all things sparkly and pink. |

Oh, God, me too! When Katie was about 3, she was on my lap and a commercial came on for JC Penny's or Old Navy or something and it was just this barrage of clothing images and Katie was gasping at them as though they were fireworks. I was trying so hard to stifle my laughter that tears were streaming down my cheeks. She turned to me and asked, "Why are you crying, mommy, is it because the clothes are so beautiful? I know, the are, aren't they." And she went back to looking at the screen and all I could do was squeeze another tear out and bite the inside of my cheek. Where did this child come from? That is sooo not me! |

Oh yeah, I know what you ladies mean. My husband will just shake his head and say, "She's such a girl!" about my almost 3 year old. She loves everything girly. The newest thing is a pair of Dorothy Ruby Red shoes, a hand-me-down from my neighbor. They barely fit her, but she CRRAAAMMSS her feet into them anyway. |

| Can I join you? DH would not allow frilly clothes (i.e. dresses are impractical, I don't want her with skinned knees!) |
What is this "does not allow" you speak of? I wish my dh would try to tell me what the kids can and can't wear.
I'm not into frilly or lacey, but there are so many adorable girls' clothes now that are neither. they are definitely more fun to dress. Somerset is super girly, too. |

When Ethan was like 3 he caught sight of some of those sparkly red shoes. Oh the tears! He wanted them so badly. "I want pwetty wed shiney shoes! Shiney shoes, mommy!". He cried like his heart was breaking. I totally would have let him have them, but his wide foot didn't even come close to fitting. He could not get his foot in there no matter how hard he tried. Poor kid. |

| Congrats! I never dressed Jaime really frilly either. It is very common around here to see baby girls in yards of ribbons and lace. I always prefer pretty but simple. Jaime would probably prefer the ribbons and lace though! |
