did you use a DG at all with your first?
I prefer the target bag slung over the doorknob method of diaper disposal. |

| Cool! I have a diaper genie and I love it. Not that new, high tech one, though. I am very brand loyal to the diaper genie people. I had one with Alex and loved it. I had some Playtex thing with Katie and it sucked. Got a DG and it was great. Now, I have another with Liz and it really does control the odor. Maybe one of those new ones is in our future, since Liz will be in diapers 'till she's 20 (I am NOT potty training her--ever!). |

I did use a DG until Michael was about 1. Then, since he usually only gets 4 or 5 diaper changes a day, I just toss the pee diapers in the kitchen trash and take the poop diapers to the outside trash right away. I really just started to feel lazy about changing the DG refill and cheap about buying the refills.
I loved using the DG with a newborn though. You are just changing diapers so often and I felt that it really helped contain the smell. This new one looks super too--you don't even have to twist it and the refills have a red line to let you know when they are getting low.
Speaking of poop, what is up with Michael's poop now? He's been eating solids since he was 6 months or so and lots of solids since 10 months or so, but in the last month his poops are totally toxic. When I change a poop diaper I have to light a candle to help cut back on the crap smell throughout the whole house. Does something happen at around 15 or 16 months to make their poop smell worse? Now I understand why people get desperate to potty train! |

I HATED the diaper genie! I actually threw it in the dumpster after I couldn't get the shit smell out of Jack's room!
I ended up buying a cheap $10 pale w/cover and it was so much better. I just changed the bag.
How is the new one better? I just hated it so much I actually would tell people who registered for it not to waste their money - and I usually never butt in about stuff like that. |

I thought the DG was a gigantic scam. I could never get it to work right. It's definitely on my list of things that are better in theory.
I used one with Holden for about 2 weeks and then went out and bought a white plastic, kitchen size garbage can from Target. It's the one that springs open and shut and used that for diapers and honestly, that was the best solution ever.
For poopies, I use a Target bag too and then throw it on the back porch. Scott's job is to retrieve poopy Target bag and take it the rest of the way, to the garbage can. Garbage people take it to it's final resting spot, the landfill. I think it's been said on this board before however, that it's illegal to throw poop away. You're really supposed to flush it, but I could never bring myself to do that. |

I don't see how it can be *illegal* to throw poop away. I guess if you're really wanting to be careful about the spread of germs and all, it would be extra nice if you flushed it.
Anyway...I'm sorry you guys didn't like the DG, it was one of my absolute necessities, and still is!
Becky, I don't know what's going on with the poop. Is there something different that he's eating now? |
