So my ankles disappeared a month ago, and I look like a beached whale in a swimsuit (and I've got some scary looking spider veins that make exposed legs in general an ugly proposition), but I've finally reached my favorite part of being pregnant: I have to hold my breath to be able to shave my legs. Does this happen to anyone else? I literally cannot breathe if I bend down that far. Normally, I would just say screw it and be hairy, but it's driving me bat-shit crazy right now to have stubbly legs.

LOL! This was so totally me last summer. I actually didnt mind swimming since my maternity suit was so ginormous, it was a 2 piece with a long swingy top and covered me to mid-thigh. I wish I could get away with wearing it this summer since I am still fat but no longer pregnant!
Shaving legs was so hard! TMI: as was doing any bikini-line work. Just not happening past 7 mos or so.
My varicose veins got horrible in one leg too. I am hopefully getting them fixed as soon as my insurance approves it! |

Oh DCH...I hear ya on the maternity swimsuit. I loved mine and wish I could get away with wearing it this summer.
I remember that there was NO WAY I could paint my toenails towards the end and had to beg DH to do it for me. Why did I care so much? I couldn't even see my feet I think I propped my leg up on the side of the tub too and was able to shave my legs ok. But I totally stopped shaving my bikini area and have never gotten back into keeping that area groomed. |

I hear ya on being pg in the summer! My first was born in Aug. It was humid and rainy all summer (we were in Connecticut). My second son was born in November but I think it was still in the 100s in September. We are in phx, it's so hot the devil lives here.
Re: your swelling. Are you able to eat well? I know with the growing belly it's hard to eat. Protein rich foods can help with the swelling. protein in your blood actually holds water in your vascular system instead of letting the water sit in your tissues causing edema. Also, try and elevate your feet as much as possible every day. You can put cold washcloths on your feet to help.
You have my sympathies!!! |

I shave w/ my leg propped up on the side of the tub already. It doesn't help with the not breathing.
Re: bikini line-- I waxed really well about three weeks ago, and I don't know what I'm going to do when it starts growing out again, cuz I can't reach anymore. I've been trying to remember what I did with my first pregnancy (ds was born in August) and I can't. With dd, I pretty much gave up at around seven months, but she was born in February.
Scout-- I'm due September 20.
Rebecca-- Thanks. I'm on a pretty high protein diet already because I'm at high risk for developing PIH/Pre-E. I never actually knew what the protein did for you though-- that's interesting.
